NCF organized a press conference yesterday on their position towards the upcoming elections. The conference took place in UNP headquarters, Omdurman.
NCF stated in a seven point press statement that : first: they all agree that conditions for fair and free elections do not exist; second: NEC was not independent and delinquent in serving its administrative and media duties; third: guaranteeing credible elections necessitates rectifying the roll, including Darfur, neutralizing the state apparatus and establishing a national media council, agreement on electoral procedures, extending the candidates nomination period up to 7th Feb and revising the constituencies demarcation; these are necessary measures that should be made even at the expense of postponing elections to November 2010, otherwise, some forces will boycott elections. Fourth: those who will electioneer will continue calling for rectifications. Fifth: A higher follow-up mechanism will be established. Sixth: Immediate contact with Darfurian armed movements to coordinate around elections will take place. Seventh: electioneering will either lead to some degree of participation, or be a chance for pinpointing violations, calling for fairness, and coordination between boycotters and electioneerers in the national agenda.
